Whenever acne rears its ugly head, it’s usually a very distressing time for the sufferer. It can be embarrassing to be seen when you have large red pimples all over your face and it’s usually our first instinct to either pick at the zits or cover them up with store bought ointments, creams, cleansers and whatever else they’re marketing nowadays. It never occurs to us that taking something internally may be far better at clearing the symptoms of acne.

Sometimes the only thing that will clear persistent acne is a course of antibiotics administered under the supervision of a suitably qualified doctor or dermatologist.

If you have suffered from persistent acne contact your doctor and make an appointment. Go and ask whether antibotic treatment is appropriate for you. Your doctor will conduct a series of tests on you to determine if you’re a good candidate for acne antibiotic treatments. These tests may include a physical examination, and even a series of blood tests to make sure there isn’t something more serious going on with you. If you are a good candidate, your doctor will prescribe acne antibiotic treatments and will give you instructions on how to take them.

If antibiotics are prescribed it’s important to finish the course of treatment. Don’t just stop when you see an improvement in your acne. When the acne does start clearing up, you’ll know you made the right decision.

When you have completed your course of antibiotics, make another appointment with your doctor to make sure you are completely free of the acne. You may require extra treatments, often at a lower dosage, if you have a little acne left.

It is worth trying antibiotics, if your doctor offers them as the treatment has a high success rate which in turn means you will finally be able to show your face to the world without embarrassment.
